Relaxed arrival at the airport, transfer to the hotel in Catania (half board)
Right at the beginning of your journey, a magnificent climax awaits you: the highest still active volcano in Europe: Mount Etna or “Mongibello”, as the Sicilians affectionately call their “mountain of mountains”! Through vineyards, barren mountain landscapes and cooled lava flows you approach the volcano to Etna Nord by bus.
Here a geologist will show you the volcano.
At noon we will organize a picnic with barbecue.
Your journey will take you to the enchanting town of Taormina – impressively situated on a terrace of Monte Tauro, it was already praised by Goethe as the “Pearl of Sicily”. Experience an unforgettable panorama of the picturesque coastal and volcanic scenery during a city tour from the Greco-Roman open-air theatre and then stroll over the picturesque Corso Umberto.
Half board
Drive to Milazzo and embark to Lipari.
By bus we go to Quattropani. From Quattropani, a small road goes to Chiesa Vecchia, a bright white pilgrimage church from the 17th century. The view from here over the coast and the islands in the sea is fantastic. After this little detour we take the path at the winery Castellaro to the Cave di Caolino. At the Kaolin pits, the path begins down to the cliffs. Towards the sea there are two large elevations, they are cooled volcanic cones.
At the winery Castellaro we enjoy a wine tasting with snack
Afterwards we continue with a walk. In some places the path is divided by wide gullies, which the rain water has washed down into the soft stone. On the left hand rise the vertically ascending and partly overhanging rocks, which provide shelter for numerous birds. On the right, the sea lies in clear turquoise. Lipari is here like a green garden with blooming cacti above the sea, overlooking the neighbouring island of Salina and the smaller islands of Filicudi and behind it Alicudi.
Continue by bus to an island tour. Then back to Lipari, and in the afternoon visit the small village and museum.
Dinner of your choice
Today the two little sisters Alicudi and Filicudi are on the program. A boat trip less than two hours later, and you reach Alicudi, the conical island with its steep, barren slopes. There are no streets here and you can only get from house to house via old stone steps. Continue by boat to the pretty little island Filicudi, famous for its numerous caves. A particularly beautiful one is the Grotta del Bue Marino (seal grotto), in which plays of light and shadow conjure up impressive reflections. After a visit to the Bronze Age village of Capo Graziano we return to Lipari.

Salina consists of six extinct volcanoes – due to the many springs, the island is covered with lush green and is therefore considered the exception of the Aeolian Islands.
Today you will discover the particularly beautiful places of Salina on a boat trip. Due to its natural water sources, it is the most fertile of the archipelago and has a rich flora and fauna. Malvasia vines and wild cape shrubs grow here. The Salina capers are very popular with foodies! On an island tour you will see the volcanic island, and if time permits, your tour guide will take you on a short hike through the impressive nature.
In Salina we eat “Pani Cunzato”, Granita and drink Malvasia wine:
Return to Lipari and overnight stay.
Vulcano is perhaps the most exciting of the Aeolian Islands. Although the last eruption was more than 120 years ago, the volcano of the same name still “smokes” and sulfur vapor rises from countless holes in the earth.
A walk will take you across the isthmus to the Vulcanello peninsula with the black fine sand bay “Sabbie Nere”. Here you can bathe in the geothermal sea, relax in a sulphur fango lake or hike the valley of the lava monsters.
Experience pure volcanism with fantastic views over the archipelago!
In the afternoon we take the boat back to Lipari. On this day there is the possibility to take part in a fishing of squid in the morning or in the evening. You will eat the caught fresh squid on board. Please ask our tour guide on site.
Free day to relax
Today we drive by boat about 2.5 hours to Stromboli, passing Panarea, the smallest and oldest volcanic island of the archipelago.
The island of Stromboli has the perfect shape of a stratovolcano that reaches more than 2000 meters below sea level. In Jules Verne’s novel “Journey to the Center of the Earth” was the final stop here. During the day, smoke and steam rise from the permanently active volcano, sometimes even lava fountains are thrown up.
We visit the lava tongue from the volcano to the sea by boat at sunset and make dinner on board.
Stay on Stromboli and dinner on board the boat.
In the morning visit the old village in Stromboli on foot. A special highlight is the night tour with a mountain guide to the Stromboli (depending on weather, volcanic activity and condition). After a laborious ascent (3 h/900 meters altitude) to see the sunset – this is one of the special experiences of this trip.
Overnight in Stromboli.
Free day to relax
We end our journey in a magical place: drive to Milazzo and on to the plateau of Argimusco. This plateau has huge rocks that have unusual shapes of animals and human faces.
This place is called by many the “Sicilian Stonehenge” because of its charm and the beauty that emanates from its stones. This plateau has been used since time immemorial for rites to worship the water and to observe the sky and feel connected to it. We have a delicious and nice picnic there and say “Arrivederci” to Sicily.
Then we go for lunch in a “Salumeria” in Santa Domenica Vittoria and we will taste the delights of the Nebrodi Mountains; Ham and salami from the famous “Maialino dei Nebrodi” (Nebrodi piglet), sheep cheese, goat cheese, ricotta, olives, dried tomatoes, fresh bread, olive oil. A lot to take away, too, to enjoy the rustic Sicily later also at home.
