In the morning you will explore Taormina, which is also called the “Pearl of the Ionian Sea” because of its picturesque location. You will visit the ancient city centre and the Greco-Roman theatre with its unique location high above the sea.

In the afternoon you start your first hike on Monte Veneretta. From Castelmola you will walk along old paths to the hilltop. Enjoy the panorama with a view of the Strait of Messina, Mount Etna and Taormina at your feet.

You drive to Pantalica. The area is a World Heritage Site. The impressive Necropolis of Pantalica includes several hundred rock tombs from around 1270 BC., sheltered over the gorges of the Anapo and Calcinara rivers. The hike leads through the beautiful terrain. You walk through the gorge of Anapo and return to your starting point Anaktoron.

Today it goes up to Mount Etna (UNESCO World Heritage), which at 3,300 m altitude is one of the largest still active volcanoes in Europe. Through vineyards, barren mountain landscapes and cooled lava flows, you take the bus into a strange-looking lunar landscape. The ascent by bus is usually possible up to approx. 1,900 m altitude. In this lava landscape you hike. Then drive to the northwest of the island to Cefalu. 4 nights in the Cefalu/Palermo area.

A circular hike takes you “to the roof of the Madonie” to the “second highest peak in Sicily”, the Pizzo Carbonara (approx. 1,980 m). The Piano Battaglia plateau is almost treeless and the lean karst pastures are grazed by sheep. The bare massif of Monte Ferro towers over everything. With a clear view, the view extends from Pizzo Carbonara to Mount Etna and the Aeolian Islands.

Between San Vito lo Capo and Castellammare del Golfo, the mountain slopes that fall down to the sea and form numerous small bays announce the entrance to the Lo Zingaro Nature Reserve. Small paths lead to the sea or into the mountains, allowing you to cross one of the most intact landscapes of the Mediterranean. Countless bird species such as peregrine falcons or hawk eagles nest in this area. Many endemic and rare plants grow here. Spectacular is the dwarf palm, symbol of the nature reserve. In the afternoon you will visit the archaeological area of Segesta, famous for its well-preserved Doric temple.

In the Norman Cathedral you can admire the mosaics and visit the old Arabian washhouse with its splashing fountains. To the noisy island capital, Cefalu is pure contrast with its bright sandy beach, the colorful alleys and the colossal rock in the background. Decide for yourself whether you want to follow your guide to the town or relax on the beach.
